Comino Island

Malta’s smallest inhabited island offers beautiful nature, beautiful bays and cliffs that are definitely worth a visit. Snorkeling is also great in the crystal clear waters. The island of Comino is only 3 km2 in size and only about 10 people live here permanently. Tourists come here mainly for breathtaking scenery and swimming without crowds.
What to see and the beaches of Comino?
Blue Lagoon – Blue Lagoon is the most visited place in Comina. The lagoon, or rather the bay between Comino and the small island of Cominotto, has turquoise colored crystal clear water, a fine sandy bottom and many rocky nooks. Combined with very calm waters, this is the perfect constellation for great snorkeling. There are two beaches here, but on both of them you will lie mainly on large stones, so it is not a classic sandy beach. There is also a small bar by the harbor.
Crystal Lagoon – Crystal Lagoon is a narrow bay with very high cliffs, from which there is a beautiful view of the turquoise blue sea with dramatic natural scenery. Due to the steep cliffs, access to the sea is only possible from private cruise ships.
Santa Maria Caves – On the north side of the island you can admire the high cliffs falling into the sea and forming sea caves. The place is again just “to watch”, you can only get to the sea by private boat.
Santa Maria Bay – At the only village on the island there is also the only real sandy beach on the Comino. In the high season, sun loungers with parasols can be rented, and there are also public toilets by the beach.
Torri ta Santa Maria – St. Mary’s Tower is a historic observatory from the 17th century, from which there is a beautiful view of Comino and the strait between the main island of Malta and the island of Gozo. Admission is free.
